“Little bits of Effort all of the Time will Yield Big Results” - Clayton P.
Hello Instructure Team!
I look forward in getting to know you a little bit better soon! I wanted to share with you a few items to help you get to know me.
But first, you may be thinking: "Hey, what is an awesome trainer in Utah doing in applying for a West Coast training position?"
My response: "I have traveled and worked in most of the West Coast cities and the traffic and commuting are horrendous! I can catch a flight in the early morning from Salt Lake and be in any of the big cities within 2 hours! And, I have wanted to live in Temecula, CA so relocation is also an option."
So with that in mind, please take a few moments and peruse the items I have hand-selected for you.
Best regards,
Clayton P.

I have been hard at work for a while now. Here is a glimpse into some of my achievements. This digital portfolio encompasses, not just training highlights, but all aspects of my career. Included is a selection from business development success, time as a military officer, a small-business owner/operator, and public speaker.
"Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work."

I could not agree more! Here is a sample of a training class I have been working on this year. It is all about the 'Crucial Conversation.' Or in other words, accountability. How to approach the hard conversation and important it is to be able to have it. I have received a lot of positive ratings for this training class. It is very satisfying to see new managers increase their ability to have the hard conversation as we progress through the different role-plays.
I have been trying to create a conversation, not just a power point presentaion. The idea is to have less of an information download. Instead, using progressive role-plays as I build the outline of the crucial conversation technique, and then a dissection of those performances to find the opportuntites for improvement.
i.e. we will role play a challenging conversation early to demonstrate that it is a difficult task and takes practice!
In addtion, I created the 'Fill in the Blank' (FIB) handout to go along with the class. This allows participants to leave with the pertinent take-aways and keeps their attention by actively listening for the FIB answers! It seems to be going over well. What do you think?
"In addition to sharing product best practices with customers, you need to develop a body of best practices and tips for facilitating product training and share with fellow trainers."

I wanted to share some insight as to how I have taught customer service and the sales cycle. I am a big believer in the 'Trusted Advisor' idea. Here is a presentation that I taught to medical aestheticians at Light Touch Education. It was a combination of slides, video, and hands - on role play.
It sounds like Instructrure wants their trainers to be something similar to a 'Trusted Advisor' and I would love to be a leader in this area. I believe in it, I have trained sales reps and medical professionals in it, and I have had personal success being a trusted advisor. And I want to share that with customers and fellow Instructure trainers.
In addition, I have included the handout I used with the class. I believe folks do not retain as much as we would hope so I like to use leave-behinds to help them practice what they learned. The hand-out for this class is at the end of the presentation.
Special Note: The material is based on Peter Block's consulting work, established sales models, and some of my own ideas.
"Awe-inspiring presenter. Ability to keep training sessions fresh and fun, even after the umpteenth time delivering the same training."

Finally, I wanted to show you a quick snippet of video. Here is an Evaluation speech that I am very proud of. I won the Toastmasters Divisional speech contest with this effort, against 6 finalists from 4 western area states.
I show this video because this presentation is a response to a speech that another speaker gave as a test speech. I have found that being able to quickly provide an evaluation of a performance has been valuable as a trainer. Especially once they finish a role-play or a client call.
As a trainer and evaluator, I always find the highlights and a few things to work on and then provide some suggestions as to how implement them. Enjoy!
